Is there a better way for drawing my table

I've made a table with repeating empty cells so I was wondering if there is a better way to draw it.

Is there a better way to repeat the content of a page?

I am back with my table.

I edited it to use macros and it works very well. Now I was trying to print a single page twice on a recto-verso page. I ended up having 2 tables on 2 pages instead of 2 tables on 1 pages. I figured I can not do that and I should repeat my table to accommodate the printer.

So I used a macro to repeat the table and it works. But I wonder if there is a better way of doing that?

Why is there a padding only on the first row of a repeating pattern?

I've made a page of labels and I don't understand why the first line is rendered in a different way as the others.

The first line is not align the same way and the \vspace* following it doesn't have the expected effect.

The horizontal misalignment was due to first line being indented. To fix the issue with the vertical space: don't use \\ if you want a line break.

How to keep cell border with a column background color?

I used my score board for a while now, but it appears that it's hard to know in which column I need to write.

So my idea was to color every other column so I know which one I need to use.

Now, every other column have a background but I've lost the borders on those.

I've looked here and here for inspiration, but I cannot spot where is my mistake.

So how do I color the background and keep the borders at the same time?

The trick in case of problems with lines in coloured tables consists in using hhline, so I redefined \customBorder. Note the very thin white lines in the coloured cells seem to come from the viewer.

Some explanations on the code:

An \hhline is described by a succession of symbols (one per column): either ~ (no rule in the corresponding column), or - (a single rule) or = (a double rule) These symbols can be separated by symbols describing how horizontal rule and vertical rule intersect (|, || and :). Furthermore, if a motto is repeated several times, a short syntax similar to the array package syntax for repeated column type can be used. Here, I used *{5}{…}, which means the same motto is repeated 4 times (and used 5!). Also the syntax >{…} allows to insert code before the following segment (e.g. to change the rule colour from the next segment).

To delete white rules in coloured cells, I replaced ~ which would have been used if the cell were not coloured, with a rule segment of the same colour as the cell, like this |>{\arrayrulecolor{Gray}→{\arrayrulecolor{black}|- ….

Why the first tikz element is a bit off?

I've made a sheet of label using tikz. I am pretty happy about it but there is something that bothers me. The first row of label is a little bit of to the right compared to other rows and I don't know why.

How positioning works with tikz

My questions are:

Why my tikz picture is vertically aligned with the middle of the table? I was expecting it would be aligned from the top
Why do I need to set the tikz picture width if I want to center it? Can't I just position the picture where I want?

It seems that there are some misunderstandings, so I'll try to add some clarifications. I am happy with what I've got. I just don't understand how I've got it.

From what I've coded, I thought the picture would be aligned on the top of the table. I was planning to move it down later. But it was already located where I wanted. That's the topic of the first question.

For the second question, if I don't set the width of the node, the node is on the left side, aligned to the edge of the table. My guess is because the node takes only the space needed to display the text contained. Am I right?

To understand what happens, consider this simplified example:

There are a few things to note:

The default vertical alignment of a tabular is to center it on the baseline.
The default vertical aligntment of a tikzpicture is to place its bottom on the baseline.
A tikzpicture is cropped to its contents.
As far as positioning on the line/page, a tikzpicture is just a box, and in that sense no different from say the letter X, or a tabular, or an \includegraphics.

The first two points is the reason why your title roughly aligned with the center of the tabular.

Regarding the horizontal positioning, the last two points are the reason you need text width=9cm. That setting makes the node wider, but because the text is centered within that 9cm, the text is pushed to the right of the table. For example, if I add text width=5cm to the node in my example above, I get this:

But to push something a bit right on a line, it's perhaps more natural to insert some horizontal space, so you could add e.g. \hspace{3cm} between \end{tabular} and \begin{tikzpicture}.

edit: for aligning table (tabular environment) and image (tikzpicture environment) with title is important that both have the same baseline. with option [t] (top) the table is aligned to their top. similarly with defined baseline of tikzpicture to be at its north side (current bounding box.north) both baseline are in line. if you not define this, the natural baseline for table is middle of table and image is bottom of image.
